Frequently asked questions
How is a Hook Up different from a regular hose holder?
Hook Up is a premium hose hanger made from stainless steel and aluminium. No plastic, no rust, no replacing it every two years. Unlike standard plastic hose reels that crack, fade, and end up in landfill, Hook Up is built tough to handle whatever the environment throws at it, and it actually looks good doing it. Read more about why we designed Hook Up.
Where is Hook Up manufactured?
All Hook Up Hose Hangers are proudly manufactured in Wanaka, New Zealand by Wai Innovation who specialise in precision fibre laser cutting. Small batch, local production means our co-founder Brad stays hands on throughout the production process from the first cut to the finished product leaving our door. This isn't a product that comes off a factory line somewhere. It's made here, by people who care.
So who actually designed this?
Hook Up Designs is the proud designer and registered owner of this geometric hose hanger design. After getting fed up with the tangle of hoses and cracked plastic reels, we designed a solution from scratch and completely free from plastic, actually looks good, and hooks straight over your faucet in seconds. What's the difference between the Hook Up models?
We have a range of Hook Ups which are differenctiated by the metal used, mounting options, hose attachment and garden storage slots and the colour. The requirements of where you would like to Hook Up your hose and the environment you are in will help to determine which model is best for you. Check out our How to Choose your Hook Up guide.
What are Hook Up hose hooks made from?
Depending on the model, Hook Up hose hangers are made from 304-grade stainless steel, 316-grade stainless steel, or marine-grade aluminium. All materials are chosen for their strength, corrosion resistance, and ability to handle coastal and UV-heavy environments without degrading. Check out our Material guide for more information.
What's the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel?
Both are high quality stainless steel, but the key difference is in the composition. 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, excellent for standard outdoor use in inland areas. 316 adds 2–3% molybdenum, a hard metallic element that significantly increases corrosion resistance, particularly against chloride and salt. In coastal environments, chloride ions can cause "pitting" localised corrosion that eats into 304 over time. 316 is specifically engineered to resist this, which is why it's the grade trusted in marine and architectural hardware worldwide. If you're within a few kilometres of the coast or in a high-humidity environment, 316 is the one to go for. Check out our full Material Guide.
What's the difference between stainless steel and aluminium?
Both are corrosion-resistant, weather-tough, and built for outdoor use the differences come down to weight, thickness, and finish. Our stainless steel hooks are 2.5mm thick and 2-2.2kg offering exceptional long-term durability and resistance to deformation over time. Our marine-grade aluminium is 4mm thick slightly thicker but significantly lighter, with a natural oxide layer that protects against oxidation, plus a powder-coat finish for all-environment protection. Aluminium has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, while stainless steel edges it for raw durability under extreme conditions. Both are sourced from the same stock used in marine and architectural hardware. The choice really comes down to the look and feel you want. Compare them side by side in our How to Choose your Hook Up guide.
Is Hook Up Hose Hooks suitable for coastal environments?
Yes our Hook Up Premium 316 and Hook Up Stealth have specifically been designed with coastal environments in mind. 316-grade stainless steel and marine-grade aluminium are the same materials used in boat fittings and coastal architecture. Salt air, sea spray, and humidity won't touch it.
Will Hook Up Designs hose hangers rust?
No. Each material is precision selected from the same stock trusted in marine and architectural hardware. We use materials that are strong, durable, and chosen to suit a range of environments without corroding. Check out our Material Guide for more information.
What size garden hose does Hook Up hold?
All models hold up to 20m of standard garden hose. If you're permanently wall mounting, the hook can hold up to 30m.
Are the edges of the Hook Up sharp?
No. Every Hook Up is deburred and sanded during production, giving it a smooth finish that's safe for your garden hose and safe to handle. No rough edges, no catches, no wear on your hose.
How does Hook Up install?
How much is shipping?
Free. All New Zealand and Australia orders ship free, no minimum spend required. For Shipping timeframes check out our Shipping Policy,
How do I care for my Hook Up?
Hook Up is built to handle the outdoors, but like anything exposed to the elements, regular maintenance keeps it looking looking and performing as good as the day you installed it. A light wash and wipe is recomended to keep it looking just as good as the day you brought it. The frequency is recomended based on your envirnment. Find out more in our Care Guide.
Can I buy replacement parts?
Yes. Each Hook Up comes with a rubber backing that protects your wall. We know the rubber won't outlast the hook itself, that's just the nature of the material. Which is why we sell replacement rubber backings separately for when yours gets tired. No need to replace your whole hose hook only the rubber backing.
